Snow Removal
With the winter months upon us, it’s a good time to update residents about snow ordinances in
Fairmont. Ordinance 6-30 states that it shall be unlawful for the occupant of any lot or lots within the
corporate limits to allow snow, sleet, mud, ice or other substance to accumulate on the sidewalks or
to permit any snow, sleet, ice, or other substance to remain upon said sidewalk. All sidewalks within
the business district shall be cleaned within five (5) hours after the cessation of a storm, unless the
storm or fall of snow shall have taken place during night, in which case the sidewalks shall be
cleaned before eight thirty o’clock (8:30) a.m. the following day; provided, sidewalks within the
residential areas of the Municipality shall be cleaned within twenty-four (24) hours after the
cessation of the storm.
Also, if you know it will snow during the night, please do not have your cars parked on the streets as
the plows will be out early in the morning. If you do park on the street during a snow storm your
vehicle will have the possibility of being blocked in by the snow plows.
